Connetquot Youth Baseball Confusion

I can't tell you how many times I've been asked why are there three baseball leagues in Connetquot and no other town.  To be honest, I have no idea, but the effect it has on us as a community should be discussed.  For the many years I've lived here, there has been confusion and misinformation swirling around about which league should your kids sign up for.  That is an individual family choice, but there is only one sanctioned and official league in Connetquot that is under the Little League umbrella and that is Connetquot Little League, formerly Sunrise Little League.  The fact that baseball and softball is in such a disorganized state in our district is unfortunate.  We have youth baseball and softball leagues jockeying for kids and that leaves us in a state that benefits no one, especially the kids.  All of our surrounding towns are getting new turf fields, and we are not.  One of the major reasons for that is that no one program has the numbers of kids that can justify this.  Bayport, Sayville and now Islip all have strong Little League numbers and each have gotten field upgrades in the past few years.  We must unite the youth of Connetquot into the officially sanctioned Little League baseball and softball program so that we can rise the levels of our surrounding towns, and surpass them.  We are a much bigger town than all of these, yet we do not get the benefits they do.  The one goal here should be that all of the Connetquot youth should play together in recreational baseball and softball, under one program.  Any other agenda of fundraising and feeding travel teams needs to stop if we are to compete with our surrounding towns and get better facilities for our kids.  Please check out the FAQ and Misinformation sections on the web site for answers to common questions, or send an email to [email protected] if you have further questions.
